LoL, "Radaina" on Abdullah Al Salem?

Don't bring him up so often since by that you subconsciously elect to withstand our miserable status by holding onto a fond memory instead of being realistic in regards to our current status and acting upon that.

And speaking of realistic, Abdullah Al Salem was nothing extraordinary; he was merely doing his job which is preserving the rights of his citizens.

But when "doing one's job" gets to be highlighted as extraordinary, that's when you know your land is doomed.

May WE rest in peace.

Laish shel moshkila eb abdullah al salem ... lets take the region history for once and see for ourselves do abdulla al salem really counts does he deserve any thanks ?
why not remember his actions in which kuwait wont be as the new kuwait you know ... tekhayelay law kan abdullah al salem 7azra ... so instead of him we got president shakhbot of the emirates before zayed ... what will you say then ? thank you for not doing your job ?
i think u just want to oppose for the sake of it but common be serious ... the guy brought up a democracy in between a region of barbarians and hooligens ... everyhthing went better after him because of him .. so why not thank him ?
you thanked me for blogging and its not my job ... so why not thank this guy ? he lived humbly where he could take all the money or go to morocco and live in a big big palace with hareems ... but he used his brains and benefited the ppl who had a history of pearls and collecting camel shit for coal ... doing that .. everything i mean he did counts for nothing ?
you better have a better argument for that pumpkin pie

Cheers

Edrak,

It was his job to ensure the benefit of his community. It was within his responsibility as a person in power. No more no less. By assuming that he did something above standard is to assume the normalcy of having people in power who do not live up to their role.

Yes, he could have chosen an alternative and negative path, but it would have been the wrong path that immediately instigates criticism and condoning. So don't assume he was extraordinary; what he did was what he had to do as a ruler and person in power.

You also make another wrong assumption, which is assuming that the people of Kuwait were below standard when it came to being enlightened in politics, education, and lifestyle in general. We have all come from the same place as Kuwaiti families and have assisted - after choosing our leaders ourselves - in founding the constitution.

Do not proclaim his superiority lest you deem yourself as inferior.

You're right about one thing though. I shall not perceive his achievement as extraordinary but I will thank him for a job well done; it's only manners after all.

I thank you with greater esteem, though, because it's not your job to blog. Because you do it out of the goodness of your heart and your sense of patriotism.

But you do not hold power over me, thus you do not have to prove your competence in regards to your responsibilities. But if you held any kind of power over citizens, then it is my right to hold you accountable and my right to expect a job well done.

If we possessed that kind of mentality, all our leaders would be like Abdullah Al Salem. Aware of their responsibilities towards their citizens. But we still regard them - you the living example of that - as people who are born to rule when, in fact, they should be behind bars right now for the crimes they've committed against the astonishing pearl of the Gulf, Kuwait.

Stop dwelling in the past; it hinders you from living.

Edrak,

Your words took me back to a speech that Al Usaimi" held long ago, which was quite alright. He too spoke about how we perceive our government, about free spirits, and the unnerving current situation in Kuwait.

It's not about Al Salem or others, so many others who have failed as leaders, it's about how we perceive ourselves as citizens. If you believe slavery is justified, then you must believe that Al Salem was extraordinary.

If you believe in your right of dignity as a free man, you would perceive him as someone who lived up to his role as a person in power.

By the way, don't use numbers while writing; still haven't integrated that yet. English or Arabic will do just fine.

i totally agree and that was my point offcourse its his job i cant beg to differ but its in our humane psych to see the better out of ppl its a good exercise to do so when we see what we have become now so it wont hurt eventhiugh i agree totally with you that i dont see myself inferior and i usually fight to impose this understanding in the kuwaiti society as much as i can ... but still u live with dumb and dumbers ... aseel bayserey eemey sheii sini bateekh kakaw ... so you have to take t step by step and somehow i think its working eventhough am serious about getting out the countru for good but now i have to fight since am here because my loyaly is towards the land not towards a person ... many naker neama but this contry wont last 15 years or 20 at best ... gotta get outta here but ill try my best ...

Edrak,

What can I say? You bring up a lot of painful issues.

First of all, just thinking about leaving is wrong, to your people, your land, and to yourself.

Whether we like it or not, we all have organic ties to this land. You feel it and take it in like you breath in air.

Despite being born and partially raised in the States, there is nothing that moves me to great lengths than listening to TV Band's "Holo Yamlay", or going back and praying next to my Shiite brothers and be welcomed, or simply sitting at the beach wondering if it's safe to swim or not.

I am not romanticizing the idea of Kuwait since, due to the devastating corruption, there is simply nothing to fantasize about anymore. I'm merely being realistic.

I am currently studying and will be back as soon as possible to live in Kuwait and deal with crap on a day-to-day basis.

So you may leave if you wish, but be prepared to leave your heart and dignity behind, because no matter how abused you are in Kuwait, foreign abuse is intolerable in comparison.

As for marriage, you're barking up the wrong tree, buddy :-)

Ive studied abroad ive seen whats its like ... maybe ur outside the country ... you to come and see for urself the agony we live daily bas hemdlilah we don't complain alot and we try our best to fix it ...

and about the marriage thing am not barking at the tree am just a mouse looking for some cheese .. it didn't hurt to try though sugar :D

by the way if you have any idea about real estate prices in colorado greenwood or something similar .. preferably a leisure or recreational farm or house ma awaseech give us the info and you stay in Kuwait and romanticize as much as you like .. ill do like al duaij .. be a patriot but overseas watching beautiful greenery and breathing dustless air and then you wont say i left my dignity and ran away am just taking another approach :D
.. my health is more important

Eddy,
How's that for a new name? "Mas-khara" :-)

Anyway, leave. "Gal'at Wadreen".

I'm staying where my entire family is; aunts and uncles, cousins and nephews. Home is where the heart is.

By the way, I've worked at a farm before; isn't as cracked up as people think it is. It's constant labor throughout the day. You won't have time to scratch your ass. Sucks. I smelled like cows and chicken coops.

Yeah baby, there are no "khadam" here :-)

And stop referring to me as female, I've already told you I'm a guy.

Seriously though,

I don't know why everyone thinks Americans are doing something worthwhile with their time.

They’re extremely lagging in academic achievement and rank way below so many European and Asian countries (in science, math, and literacy altogether). Back in high school, I actually had a guy ask me what kinda language people spoke in France; mother fucker where you been?

Girls shop all the time, guys follow. All kids think about is getting high or wasted, as if there's nothing else of value going on. Women are way to masculine for their own good; at least our women are still soft and cuddly.

Media's fucked up with a capital F.

Discrimination is unbelievable. So if people like Henry Gates Jr. went through racial profiling, think of what it’s going to be like for your Muslim-Arab ass. Unless you completely shed your identity, and man I’d take discrimination over that any day of the friggin week.

FDA is a bunch of baloney, approving all sortsa fucked up meds for the sake of profit, only to have people fall left and right with seizures and sue later on.

You're under the illusion that voting counts when it doesn't. Both parties work under the same bullshit; watching out for their own asses vs. watching out for the American people who are out in the streets, dirt-poor, without medical insurance, in fuckin' rags, and homeless.

You say that many Kuwaitis are "dumb ppl with blogs". What's so dumb about self-expression? A Kuwaiti teen writing about her unbelievably boring day is way better than an American teen crying over how her abusive boyfriend left her upon getting pregnant.

Besides, YOU proclaim knowledge. After all, you have read Chomsky, Said, and “If Americans Knew”. Yet, you're still deluded when it comes to perceiving the States. Who’s ignorant now, Eddy?

You gotta whole lotta shit to shield your kids from, to shield yourself from. Especially when the elite are so fuckin' subtle about it.

Yeah, Kuwait has its issues, no country is perfect, but it's still more natural in a way. Plus, you've got family. And I don't know how you feel towards your own family, but I love mine.

Alright. Won't use no more profanity either. Will try not to anyway.

Stay. I'd hate to lose someone like you. We're the same age. We might end up becoming friends someday, married and overwhelmed. We'll take the kids out swimming or something.

In Kuwait.
